The Department of Urban Engineering was established by Resolution No. (53) of February 24, 2010, which established the constituent sections of the Institute of Management of Urban Techniques at the University of Mohamed Boudiaf Messila.

The Department has a training in two phases: Bachelor, Master System (LMD), and the department in the university season 2015/2016 approximately 300 students, staffed by about 26 permanent professors of different degrees.

Students practice their studies within the open disciplines with the following scientific and technical training:

Bachelor of Urban Engineering.
Bachelor of Urban and Urban Technologies.
Master specializes in city and urban transport.
Management of natural hazards in urban areas.
The aim of the training in the Department of Urban Engineering is to ensure a high level of training for students enrolled in the previous disciplines to acquire knowledge of urban planning and the management of cities cognitively and technically in order to ensure they achieve the following tasks:

Complementary technical studies (study and design): calculations of various networks.
Roads and drainage systems, wastewater, public lighting (VRD) …
Completion of urban waste management plans and traffic and traffic plans for the city.
Preparation of reconstruction and reconstruction tools: urban projects, the guideline for the rehabilitation and reconstruction (PDAU) and the scheme of land occupancy (POS)
Managing and following up construction and urban development projects.
Preparation of management plans and prevention of natural hazards of cities.
As a general goal, the department seeks to provide students with a modern and scientific preparation in accordance with international standards, in order to enhance the university’s outputs, enrich scientific research and contribute to the community service.
